Join my journey through the vibrant streets of Oaxaca, Mexico—a destination that promises an unforgettable experience for solo travelers and/or food lovers!

In the heart of Mexico, Oaxaca is not just a place; it's a kaleidoscope of culture, flavors, and colors waiting to be explored.

As a solo female traveler, safety is always a top priority for me, and I'm thrilled to report that Oaxaca is indeed a gem in this regard. From the moment you set foot in this charming town, you'll be greeted with warmth and hospitality that instantly puts you at ease. (But still, take caution and try to avoid walking at night!) Whether you're strolling through the cobblestone streets or indulging in the local cuisine, you'll find Oaxaca to be a welcoming haven.

One neighborhood that really stole my heart is Jalatlaco. With its narrow alleys and colorful facades, this charming area is like something out of a postcard. I highly recommend booking a walking tour to fully immerse yourself in its beauty and history.

Every corner you turn will unveil a new treasure waiting to be discovered.

Now, let's talk about the Abastos market—a bustling paradise for food enthusiasts. As Mexico's second-largest market, it's a sensory overload of sights, sounds, and aromas. While it's tempting to dive in solo, I highly recommend going with a guide to navigate the labyrinth of stalls and uncover hidden culinary delights. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or just curious to try something new, the Abastos market is an experience you won't forget! We got to try some very special cactus tacos, and if you're feeling brave, theres also several options of spicy insects and hot sauces for you to try. I went with a guide from Etnofood, and I can definitely recommend them.

There are lots of cool experiences you can take part in when in Oaxaca! Whether you're learning to cook traditional Oaxacan dishes or embarking on a mezcal tasting adventure, or even a day trip to exciting nature phenomenons - you will find the perfect tour for you. I personally like to book with Airbnb experienced but if you find an independant provider it's better to book directly with them to secure they recieve the whole payment.

Let's not forget about the center of Oaxaca itself—a pedestrian-friendly paradise just waiting to be explored on foot. Full of history and charm, every corner of the city invites you to slow down, savor the moment, and soak in the vibrant energy that fills the streets. Don't be surprised if you suddenly find yourself in the middle of a parade, they love parades here and I have seen one every day.

There are so many cute coffee places, restaurants and tasty street food, I just know you will find something you love.

Let's also take a moment for the Mexican people. Did you see my IG story of how I ended up joining a Mexican wedding party with over 600 people in it? It was the most amazing experience, I was welcomed with open arms by everyone there, and even met several of the guests for a lunch the day after. I really made friends for life here and I am so grateful for this!

So, you're craving an adventure that's as safe as it is exhilarating, look no further than Oaxaca, Mexico. It's an amazing and unique town, bursting with color and culture at every turn. Whether you're wandering through Jalatlaco, sampling street food at the Abastos market, or simply taking in the sights and sounds of the city center, Oaxaca promises an experience like no other.
